Assalamu Alaykum
Hello there,
Few weeks back I used to think that having doubts with regards religion was a normal thing. I would often say to myself “i doubt my own existence but I do exist so doubts do not really account to much”.
I was wrong, it turned out that one can actually have faith without doubts. I learnt it the hard way, I gradually dispelled my doubts by gaining a bit more knowledge of my Lord(and religion)
Additionally I enrolled in an 8weeks course organised by the “Sapience institute” aimed at dispelling doubts that Muslims may have.
These are the insights from this week’s course:
1. Doubts(also known as shubuhaat) is one of the two main illnesses of the heart(the other being shahawaat(desires)).
2. There are 3 main sources of doubts(based on a study carried out by Yaqeen)
I. Moral and social
Ii. Philosophical and scientific
Iii. Personal trauma
Lastly, through out the course we will be discussing 10strategies for dispelling doubts which are as follows:
1. Be aware
2. No attention
3. Make the distinction
4. Your Environment
5. Study Islam
6. Critical thinking
7. Find a specialist
8. Deal with trauma
9. Focus on your heart
10. make duaa
As we move along I will be sharing these strategies in shaa Allah.
But I leave you with a dua “Ya muqallibal Qulub, thabbit Qalbi alaa deenik”
“Oh Turner of hearts keep my heart firm on your deen”
It is said that the above duaa was frequently uttered by Rasulullah(SAW) and I find it to be profound. If the best of creations who knew God better than all of us, had the best of Imaan, frequently made that duaa then who are we not to?
Please don’t forget to pray for my late friend, Abubakar Abdulrahman. May his soul continue to rest in peace and may the barakah of this write up reach him. Ameeen.
Wa’alaykumus salam warahmatullahi wa barakatuh
