Be A Yusuf

Assalamu Alaykum warahmatullahi wa barakatuh

NB: I KNOW I OUGHT TO CONTINUE WITH THE FAITH AND DOUBTS SERIES BUT I AM YET TO WATCH LAST WEEK’S LECTURE, SO IT WILL BE CONTINUED NEXT WEEK IN SHAA Allah.

So this is from Nouman Ali Khan’s Tafsir discussion on Surah Yusuf(you can find it on Youtube)

In his explanation of this ayah(surah 12:22), NAK brings our attention to something profound such as being a muslim in a place where the people around you hardly ever think about God.

Such was the case with Yusuf(AS). He found himself in a society that had little regard for God, with little to almost no fear of God in their hearts. But did Yusuf(AS) succumb to such a society? Rather when he was about to be sucked into one of the grievous of sins; he sought refuge in Allah.

This is what NAK tried to bring our attention to, we often want to run away from a society we perceive to be dark when we could be the source of light to that society.

A certain number of people that have left the religion of Islam have often complained about how badly the religion is mostly because of how the religion is practiced in their environment but the question is, did they even spare a moment to find out on their own what the religion is truly about and then be a source of light in their societies?

I think the tafsir of this episode by NAK is deeply important and I highly recommend that each reader listens to it. It is Surah Yusuf part 22: Youth, wisdom and Knowledge.

Wa’alaykumus salam warahmatullahi wa barakatuh. May the soul of Abubakar Abdulrahman(and Shaykh Noreen) continue to rest in peace. Aameeen
